Town of Santa Marta - Magdalena Province

Not our lucky day...

Our fault, we booked a cheapy airline, Jetsmart. Our flight to the town of Santa Marta was going to be about 50mn. It took 12 hours.

We got an e-mail from the airline warning of change of flight details. OK, but wait... date changed to one day later, no longer direct, via Bogota where we have to wait 4 hours. We lose one day hotel booking but get on with it.

Once in Bogota, the connecting flight was delayed. Military operation. You see, the political situation in Colombia has been deteriorating slightly recently. There is intelligence touted by the president as intended target, that one of the rebel group has got hold of 2 ground-to-air missiles capable of shooting planes. So we're on the tarmac for a long time, in a city we don't want to be in, a day late, hoping not to be shot down.

After 12h travel (equivalent to our flight to Canada), we end up knackered in a nice hotel.

Do you have cocktails? No
Wine? No

Bulb moment: we have a bottle of wine in our luggage.

Got a corkscrew? No.

Now double-checking our prior arrangement for a 4x4 transfer next morning 2,600m up the mountain. Who are you? Where do you want to go?

And then, a corkscrew magically appears. The taxista suddenly clicks who we are. Let's finish the bottle. Mañana is another day. Oh, and in the end, we didn't need a corkscrew. Plastic cork...
