Hacienda El Bosque - near Manizales

Hacienda el Bosque is perched in the clouds, a chilly several 1000 metres above Manizales.

I'm still trying to adapt to the Colombian traditional breakfast of French fries or potatoes and hot chocolate

Anyway, the scenery is fabulous, if cold. The dairy cows are true alpinists, they must wear crampons. Oh and lots of birdies.

F-R-E-E-Z-I-N-G !!!

3,000 metres altitude in the Andes.

Just been given hot water bottles.
Just to see birds, I must be crazy.

Here's the crop of the day.

Clack-clack-clack-clack (noise of my teeth clattering)

Antpittas are a specialty in Colombia. Below are the Crescent-faced Antpitta and the Equatorial Antpitta. Guides habituate these very shy birds for years with daily visits, scrumptious mealworms, and gentle coaxing calls of 'come on my little fatty'. We waited 2 hours for this little guy. The guides also have a waterblaster to stop more common birds muscling in on the worm banquet.
