Riosucio near Jardín

Trip into the mountains today in the Riosucio cloud forest, chasing rare beauty - a cloud tiger cat, an Antpitta and birds.

Loved the jeep, 1972, American, 4wd hubs, dodgy doors kept opening at 11kph, kinda tarp windows, bit frayed, so free aircon and intermittent shower for Gen. I had my body wrapped around the gearstick, so let Gen enjoy the breeze!

A few tricky landslides, this was a 'trocha' or horsetrack, narrow, had quite a laugh explaining to Jorge our conductor about cassowaries. He was blown away that the males do all the chick rearing!

After a hearty breakfast, we took a short walk to see an Antpitta.

A trail through the forest took us to the quaint Rufous Antpitta.

The place had numerous bird feeders for hummingbirds in particular.

The cherry on the cake was several sightings of a cloud-tiger cat. He had become a nuisance in the farm where he had killed 10 chickens. So the owners started feeding him fish. The trick worked, the killings stopped.
