En route, we spent a day at Jardine Lagoon on Jardine Station where the water was packed with flowering white lilies and a host of ducks, jabiru, kingfishers, and more.

We also witnessed an egret being mobbed for its fish by a black kite.

A clever emu artwork was on display by the lagoon.

The delightful dirt track continued across numerous creeks, then we turned off to follow an even smaller 4wd trail to Ellenbrae Waterhole, an imposing stretch of river with exposed rocks.

Retracing our tracks to the turnoff, we then wound our way over more creeks and finally came across an unexpected dramatic Einasleigh River crossing.

At last, we reached Einasleigh, a tiny bush hamlet and station for the delightful Savannahlander tourist train.

The fine pub has the impressive Copperfield Gorge in front.

The local campsite had a frisky bowerbird intent on furnishing his bower with pink clothes pegs and fancy white rocks nicked from the owner.

Every day we marvel at the diversity of Australia. In about 5 hours, we went from the Coral Sea, through tropical rainforest, over a mountain range, to finally reach savannah. Nothing can beat Oz.
