Lara Wetlands: Bird Bonanza

Another day, another brilliant Outback spot. Lara Wetlands, close to Barcaldine, is a scenic lagoon full of dead trees and fed by an Artesian bore.

Dotted around the wetlands, were a funny dunny, donkey boiler showers, and an Artesian pool.

Birds, birds, and more birds, flitting around us all day, including treecreepers, cockatiels, stilts, galahs, dotterels, ducks, and so many more.

The treecreeper had a comic obsession with the wing mirrors, attacking regularly, obviously convinced just one more peck would fix the bastard staring back. He needs to check in with the bird psychiatrist about this stalking!

We admired brightly coloured native hens doing their hilarious Jacko moondance across shallow water.

Meanwhile, a kookaburra caught a large cricket right in front of us.

At sunset we lit the fire to enjoy night falling and the sky filling with stars whilst other campers' fires twinkled all around the lagoon.

As we exited we saw a poor bat caught on barbed wire.
