Spotting Far North Queensland Wildlife

A lull in the rain gave us a chance to revisit the Daintree River with a trip on the Solar Whisper in search of crocs.

Before the check-in, we admired a sculpture of a croc with a piglet.

Highlight of the trip was seeing recently hatched croclets perched out of trouble on logs.

Mum kept a watchful eye nearby. Her teeth looked menacing but were actually stained red from tannin in her favourite creek.

In Port Douglas, we went to Habitat, a wildlife centre with an excellent, large walk through aviary. Species rambling freely included moorhens with chicks, lots of wallabies, chatty eclectus parrots, water dragons, a snoozing python, yellow-tailed black cockatoos, and more.

Robert met a very amorous lorikeet which insisted on pinching his skin.
