Mungalla Station: Wetland Wonder

A few kms outside Forrest Beach, near Ingham, Aboriginal-run Mungalla Station offers an idyllic camping spot overlooking a wetland creek populated by a myriad of wildlife.

Sunset sees gaggles of magpie geese and Australian ibises flying over the water. Sleek, glossy Brahman bulls, cows and calves moo and bellow beside the creek.

Sunrise reveals a jabiru stalking prey in the water plants, flocks of egrets accompanying cattle, and the arrival of a funky, cropspraying plane diving over the lush cane fields opposite.

The place is alive with birds...figbirds, honeyeaters, masked plovers, kingfishers, and more. Originally founded in 1882, the station specialised in Brahman pedigree cattle. The atmosphere today is calm and quiet, the horses, cattle and staff seem well adjusted to this gem of a property.
