For
our two gorge tour, we had Chris, a Jawoyn local guide, who gave an
Aboriginal account of what the country here means for them. We cruised
past croc trap and bite buoys, used to show if saltwater crocs have been
curious and left bite marks to betray their presence.
Towering walls of rock closed in on each side, allowing close inspection of plantlife, caves, geological structures, and mud pot nests built by migrant swifts.

At
the end of the first gorge, we walked a short rocky trail to change
boats for the second gorge. Splendid views opened up in the late
afternoon sun.
