Ivanhoe Crossing

Now closed, in times past Ivanhoe Crossing was a fabled spot to drove cattle across the mighty river. On the pioneer route, it was feared for massive floods and crocs.

One delightful pioneer story tells of a super intelligent dog who would run half a mile downriver and stand on the bank for twenty minutes barking loudly. This would attract the crocs. Meanwhile the clever dog would quietly run back to the crossing where he could swim across unscathed.
