Pushing the Boat Out: Manava Resort at Moorea

An overwater bungalow stay in turquoise waters is the cliche icon of Polynesia, so we splashed for one ridiculously expensive night in a very swanky straw-roofed hut complete with external stairs to the denuded reef and a cute, reef viewing window in the floor.

Back in December 2023, the hotel asked if we are celebrating? Well of course, let me think of something quick, an anniversary, any anniversary, for me life is a rolling celebration of anniversaries big and small on this planet, so every day is an adventure worth a free bottle of champagne! Having totally forgotten our little fib, we were pleasantly surprised to have the bubbly for our non-existent wedding anniversary. Not sure if I shot a hole in the ceiling of the straw hut?

For dinner, we had an excellent meal, tuna sashimi, fish in vanilla sauce, and lovely Kiwi wine, followed by divine choccy dessert.

This was our second night's AirBnB owned by a young French couple, keen hikers and divers, who have been expatriates in other French colonies.
