Fatu iva: Expect the Unexpected

Cracking day of sunshine today. Off we go in a 4wd Nissan safari ute for a spectacular 17km drive on hairpin bends over concrete and dirt to Hanavave.

Our driver is a petanque enthusiast whose planned Labour Day game is scotched when we cross another car which nudges us to the side where we get stuck. Nothing budges us, so the driver calls a friend who arrives with a rope which isn't enough to do the job.

The friend drops us off at Iris and Jean-Baptiste in Hanavave for an excellent lunch.

Then we head off for a balade digestive to the harbour where an indeterminate person, looking like a man, wearing a bra, hiccuping like crazy, starts chatting and says how pretty Gen is.

As the sun dipped, we launched in a small boat for a wonderful half hour trip along the coastline, spotting goats, caves, and soaring rock pillars, to our haven in Omoa.
