Leichhardt Falls

90 minutes driving from Burketown on a rural, bitumen road takes us to Leichhardt Falls, a picturesque free campsite on the Leichhardt River. The access is via a super bumpy dirt track, definitely high clearance 4wd required.

We camp high up on a rocky ledge overlooking the falls which are not running because we are nearing the end of the dry season.

Dozens of kites swirl overhead. Far below in the river we can see a large, plump freshwater croc floating, legs outstretched, while a baby freshie hauls up on the riverbank further upstream.
