Corella Dam

After resupplying in Cloncurry, we drove to Corella Dam, a haven for birdlife. From our ringside seat on the reservoir shore, we watched nature in action from dawn to dusk.

Terns divebombed for fish, darters preened and dried their wings after diving, pelicans drifted effortlessly just a wingtip feather above the water's surface, and a lapwing speared a water beetle.

A pair of Black-fronted Dotterels mounted on top of each other for mating, then quickly dismounted to pose as a couple.

Kites turned skilful aerobatics above us, locking their legs whilst inverted. Willy wagtails and peewees played tag.

As a leaving present, dawn broke in multicoloured puffs of cloud lit by the rising sun.
