Wyndham Revisited

Wyndham lies at the end of the Great Northern Highway, over 3000kms from Perth. It is now a town quietly slumbering in its faded history. We returned for a look at the marvellous museum, full of croc stories, amazing tales of daring, and wartime exploits.

Opposite the port, the Gully cemetery has pioneer headstones from the glory days when cattle were driven 1000s of kms here to the now defunct meatworks.

The famed Croc Bakery in town does croc pies and delicious cream donuts.

Birds love the area, flocking to the beautiful Marlgu Billabong where we spent early mornings photographing all the avian traffic overhead and their social interaction on the water.

Wandering whistling duck males battled each other for mating rights, flycatchers picked insects on the wing, magpie geese honked in the grass, a brown goshawk attacked ducks resting on the water's edge, so many species feeding on the abundance of prey in May.
