Roaming Cossack

Not far from Karratha, the now abandoned settlement of Cossack, settled in 1863, was once a bustling pearling centre and quay for schooners to load and unload. Cyclones every decade or so, and economic downturn saw the town with its post office, lockup and stores close down.

It has been renovated with heritage trail leading to European and Japanese cemeteries, lookouts, beaches and lovely, shady cafe with live music.

Fishing from the old quay wasn't going to plan. Several daft seagulls were mistakenly taking lures from the top of the water, getting hooked, and screaming as they were unhooked.
