Cairns Skyrail has a round tour ticket where you take the
gondola above the trees one way and the scenic, historical train the other way.
We took the gondola up to Kuranda, with a couple of stops on the way. The
technology is impressive: huge Russian helicopters were used to drop the pylons
into place so that the forest was not destroyed with access roads.
A cloudy
start soon cleared for some super views high above the rainforest.
Right on time, a rainbow unfolded before us.
Up in Kuranda, we
toured the main street, discovered the old market with its narrow laneways and
dinky shops.
We then popped into Birdworld where a cheeky parrot gave Robert a bloodletting nip, much to Gen's amusement.

At Kuranda's heritage station, a group of young Aborigine buskers were performing a dance.
It was then all aboard the
vintage train for a steep descent through dripping rainforests and past rushing
waterfalls, back to ground level.
