Unfortunately, in 2013, ex-cyclone Oswald forced the abandoned mine to dump waste water into the flood waters. The River Dee has been toxic ever since.
We spent the day visiting the lookout, the classic Victorian buildings, bright murals and hotels.
Our campground was neatly landscaped with lots of old equipment in the flowerbeds. The owner was delighted with two solid days of rain after some two years of drought.
At New Year's Eve, we all met up in the rustic camp kitchen for pizza, lamington and fun with glowsticks. Robert looks with envy at his neighbour's bigger hat. He may have to eat his. So long 2020, be gone, roll on 2021!
