Andamooka Adventure

We turned off the Stuart Highway and went to Andamooka, a rustic opal digging community, in the spirit of Lightning Ridge, but smaller.

After parking overnight at the town campsite, backed by huge mounds of mullock, we awoke next morning to gale force duststorms and blistering heat which we countered by staying inside all day with the aircon blasting.

Fast forward to the next morning, much cooler, little wind, and we are off to see the beautifully preserved, historic miners cottages. Amazing how the occupants made a home with bare essentials.

Close by, there's a display of the mining vehicles, blowers, and contraptions of yesteryear. The whole town feels like a quintessential Aussie gem.
