Maria Island - Tasmania

We took the miniferry to Maria Island for the day. Despite the best efforts of the ticket lady, christened by us Mrs Ferry Grumpy, a right cow, we had a magnificent time. We solved the saga of finding bikes to hire by going to the ranger on the island who had just two left to hire when we asked. He also enthused about the snakes, including a six foot tiger snake he'd extracted from the men's toilet the day before!

Pedalpower took us over the hillside to the amazing painted cliffs, a swirl of coloured rocks by the beach.

Our pedalling continued past the jetty to fossil cliffs, composed of ice-age fossils still visible. David Attenborough visited here to showcase fossils on TV.
