Western Flora Reserve near Eneabba

Tucked away from the Brand Highway, this reserve was a gem to visit. Ron, the owner, takes meticulous care of the place and shares his knowledge with humour.

Blue tongue lizards roam the campsites; Ron saved one from toddling under the wheels of our reversing campervan. Ron also showed us a delicate, willy wagtail nest with three young heads peeping over the top.

We spent the day on the trail where the flowers put on a great show even at the end of the season. Such a variety of colours, shapes, and sizes of wildflowers.

At night we were out bugging and discovered beetles, spiders, and wonderful frogs, plus a small bird sleeping on a low branch. Our torches attracted tiny prey to the spider web which the spider gratefully received and packaged for its larder.

The lake at night is a world of frog song, the sign by the lake lists all the many varieties of frog: banjo, moaning, quacking and the motorbike frog which we photographed. Highly recommend this reserve.
