La Sentinelle hike on Nuku Hiva was a stiff, 45 minute uphill climb for us to reach a magnificent outlook across the bay. A cheery truck driver stopped to point out the trailhead. Good weather lasted literally to the moment we got back to the car when the heavens opened. The chatty garage attendant, said oh la vache! (or holy cow!) that was lucky, the trail gets super slippery when wet.
Our parting shot for Nuku Hiva was a visit to the upmarket Pearl Lodge where we had expensive margaritas, underwhelming in liquid verve, but a great spot outside beside the pool to view the spectacular bay at sunset.
