Revisiting Davies Creek in the calm of midweek is such a pleasure. The narrow hillclimb on a heavily eroded dirt track is deserted - just as well on the blind corners. Access to our campsite (No 1) and its fireplace is rough: time to engage low 4wd.

The creek flows strong beside us, tumbling through deep pools lined with gnarly trees.

For two days we soak up the peace shared with a bonanza of foraging flocks of honeyeaters, finches, mistletoe birds, robins, fantails and more species enjoying insects and nectar from flowering trees.
