Now we are back, but the road has been tarmacked and the speed limit is 110!!
We whizz along through light showers until we turn off, deflate our tyres, and follow the sandy and rocky track 30 kms to Pender Bay Escape.
Pender Bay is a favourite spot for whales to give birth. It is also a spectacular mix of pindan cliffs, black rock and sand beaches, and peace and quiet of the bush.
Our campsite is tucked away on the top of a cliff. What a view! The gentle crashing of waves lulls to sleep.
I am startled from my sleep around 5am by Gen babbling furiously that there is a fantastic, luminous cloud formation outside beneath the moon. Outside, the air is warm and moist.
From the clifftop, the orange hint of dawn appears way out at sea. Seated in my birthday suit, croissant and coffee in hand, I gaze out to a splendid display of firework colours as rays of light shoot through and beneath the gathered clouds.
Oystercatchers squabble and call on the beach. Our woodfire shoots a lone flame into the air as the camera goes click click in an orgy of shots of nature’s gala performance.
