After being gently nuzzled by stingrays in Bendalong, we
headed further south to Lake Conjola, a super spot with a lake emptying into
the sea through sand dunes.
A raised boardwalk leads through forest over the sand dunes
to the full, magnificent vista of the seashore with row upon row of spindrift
waves breaking for miles and miles.
Tucked into the sand dunes are shallow depressions where the
rare hooded plovers nest. Little terns, another rarity, congregate on the sand
islands in the middle of the lake.
Barely waist deep at low tide, the lake is popular to wade across, kayak, or paddleboard. What a wonderful, peaceful place to spend the day by the turquoise water.
