Jazzing up Autumn

To liven up the arrival of autumn, Kiama holds a Jazz and Blues Festival when musicians play clubs, pubs, cafes, and the whole town rockabillies for a weekend.

The best fun we had on this perfect, sunny weekend, was hanging out with the street music of the Hot Potatoes, a band of brass instrument playing young guys with lots of humour.

Great to see kids and oldies, all shaking and swaying to the sounds of saxophone, tuba, trumpet and drums, not least the vocals for the song, Summer Days, belted out on a loudspeaker for a singalong.

Blue sky and mackerel skies enticed us to Gerroa and Seven Mile Beach. First a tasty lunch of poached egg and smoked salmon at the Blue Swimmer cafe, then a walk across the river bridge to the splendid beach.

A strong northerly wind was driving serpentine lines of flying sand from the shore to the sea where dozens of windsurfers in neon colours were flipping, skipping, racing, and zipping across the surf.
