A boat trip in search of hippos leads to an encounter with an apoplectic
fisherman. As soon as he sees cameras raised in his direction, he pulls
his woolly cap over his face and surrounds himself with nets. At the
same time he unleashes a local lingo volley of invective.
I note to Gen
that the gentleman is clearly not up for a photo, and she desists. Our
guide explains we made no image, but the fisherman is adamant he has
been framed by Nikon. The offer of 25 dalasi as apology brings about a
miraculous quelling of the invective and we part in equilibrium. The
fisherman even responds to tell us which way the hippos went.
