Wattle Grove Rock (SA)

Another day, another discovery to delight the senses. Tonight we are camped near Wudinna, next to Wattle Grove Rock, a huge monolith topped with massive granite boulders dominating a flat landscape of farmland leading to the distant Gawler Ranges.

So impressive our own private Wave Rock, courtesy of a lovely farmer who has even provided a loo with its own donkey shower.

There is certainly an intense aura: once a birthing site for the Aborigines, lichens whirl shapes across the rocks; Euros roam the caves studded with swallows' mud nests; a crumpled car wreck smiles next to a lone windmill; and right on top a deep gnamma hole hosts three ducks.

Late at night, the wind swirls below the limitless myriad of stars right across the sky. What a place!

How much would you leave in the donation box for the kindness of a farmer providing a priceless night here on your own? Treasure the moment.
