Fright Sight on the Bight

Skipping away from the bitumen, we hit dirt tracks to scenic lookouts on the headlands above the Great Australian Bight with their spectacular cliffs plunging into the sea.

The cliff edges are undercut by rain, wind and waves to produce wafers of soil teetering over the abyss. Park carefully. On a ramble along the clifftops, some 15 metres from the edge, I noticed a tiny overgrown crack that revealed itself in a few more metres as a massive fissure parallel to the edge, starting to cleave away.
