Fun with wildlife: Simple Pleasures

An unexpected pleasure for our stay near Bitter Springs were the birds in our campsite. For hours on end, our feathered friends would take seeds and bread, keeping us amused with their antics.

Our setup included a termite mound as the feed holder with pride of place 3 metres in front of our viewing chairs occupied from morning coffee until afternoon happy hour. Bird TV sorted.

No less than seven bowerbirds bounced around. One displayed his punk pink crest, another endlessly begged his friend or was it sister for seeds she delicately passed from beak to beak.

Blue-faced honeyeaters, bold, chirpy, and trusting, came to the hand, perched on chairs or performed somersaults around the guy ropes.

A very friendly wallaby arrived to join in the feeding and occasional backscratch. Magpie larks featured too, chasing hapless and then legless grasshoppers along the ground.

Not to be outdone, a kite appeared to scavenge, carefully avoiding a cane toad who was crossing the path.

So much fun with simple pleasures.

After a day of viewing wildlife, a dip in the clear, warm Bitter Springs was relaxing.
