Our base was Rawnsley Park Station, which we chose for a campsite next to a swimming pool. We also tried one of the self-guided 4wd drives, but were stopped at the start by a low cable after the first gate.
Instead, we headed to a favourite lookout called Pugilist Hill where we got to use the drone and make a flight or two across the bush.
For Christmas Day, we joined a bunch of staff and guests at the Woolshed restaurant.
On the menu was local rack of lamb, turkey and ham, followed by pavlova or Christmas pud. A few glasses of sauvgnon blanc went down nicely to accompany the table chitchat with our local SA neighbours about classic cars, caving, and the trials of growing up with difficult mothers.
In the evening, Gen and I drove to the lookout above the station. In comfort with a chair and aperitif, we watched as the sun went down and stars appeared interspersed with shooting stars.
