We have been out and about in
the South Coast region of NSW where we are based.
Our bushwalk to Drawing Room
rocks took us up through meadows with low clouds, then up into dense forest
with beautiful meanders along boulder lined climbs, before reaching the
heathland on top which led to spectacular views across the coast and down to
the town of Berry.
On another weekend, we went to Saddleback Mountain, rising
high above the coastline behind Kiama. The walk to the top on the Hoddles track, was a gruelling 4h return walk.
The hills and valleys lived up to the name Saddleback, followed some very steep rollercoasting firetrails traversing long ridges before we landed in thick forest.
After scrambling over huge fallen trees, past trackside streams and boulders, the underscrub signalled time to turn round and head down, but not before a scrub picnic.
En route, we heard the seasonal calling of lyrebirds, then came across one nonchalantly scratching and calling right beside the track.
