Australia - Aussie cowboy Stetsons and leather boots

True Aussie cowboy Stetsons and leather boots are the dress sense of the day at the Oberon Rodeo with riders from New South Wales, Queensland and beyond. Junior events roll in the first half of the day - what an amazing sight to see a six-year-old boy on horseback at full gallop roping a calf at full speed!

For the over 18s they bring on Big Al the clown with his scarecrow mate who stands proudly in the ring until snorting bulls mow down the scarecrow and scatter the bullfighters, including Big Al. The big bad bulls readily toss their riders except for a couple of plucky cowboys who stay on beyond the stipulated eight seconds and walk off with major points to win the cash prize.

The crowd signals its approval - families of junior cowgirls and cowboys laze in the grass with psychedelically-coloured slushees and Christmas-decorated icecreams.
