Marajó Island lies in the Amazon River delta, and is the world's largest fluvial island with an area of some 15,000 square miles, much of which is flooded during the rainy season.
Wandering in Soure, the laid back main town of Marajó, we came across the headquarters of the local mounted police who use water buffalo to patrol the swamps.
At a local farm, I rode a trusty buffalo out on my own patrol.
