Savouring 72 years at Leo: O Sole Mio!

For an advance celebration of my 72 years on the planet...if I survive the last few taxi rides...we indulged in an orgiastic, 8 courses with wine pairings, culinary romp through the regional tastes of Colombia at Leo Restaurante in Bogota, one of the top 50 restaurants in the world.

What a romp we had. Every imaginable local and international wine, a house distilled vermouth, even local brand sour beer ( a first for me). The owner Leonora, has been crowned the world's top woman chef, and she has combed the entire country of Colombia for every special flavour and texture from the Caribbean to the Amazon and way beyond.

The 8 courses had multiple sub courses ranging from conch to duck, to guineapig, to pirarucu ( the giant Amazon fish), to the equivalent of a palm witchety grub, and so much more in an explosion of taste, colour, presentation and sheer delight at being constantly surprised in a 3 hour extravaganza of treats I had never known and will never know again. What an amazing experience!

Almost heartbreaking to break into these Creations, all in a good cause though! What a procession of wines, French, Spanish, Colombian Vermouth, even a tasty, non-alcoholic orange wine.

This cute as a cloth button garnished with a flower looked edible, but just as I made a move on it, the waiter poured hot, lemon water on top and it magically blossomed into a hot towel.
