Hello Possums

Bonadio RV and Nature Park on the Atherton Tablelands was a great find. A decade ago the farming owners were losing their maize crops to rats, so they turned to tourism and restored a large tract of Mabi forest along the Barron river.

We arrived in picture perfect weather and were entranced by the riverside walk with its freshly mown grass paths. A platypus popped up in the water, such a treat.

The forest birdlife included figbirds, grey-headed robins, silvereyes, several species of monarch, Lewin's Honeyeaters, Yellow Robins, Treecreepers, peaceful doves, and many more.

Beside the forest was a shed with feeding platform for the nocturnal Coppery and Brushtail Possums, and Red-legged Pademelons. Fireflies flashed around us.

A cheeky possum poked his nose onto the camera lens and used sharp nails to investigate and tug on our vegetable offerings.

An unconcerned Boyd's Forest Dragon surveyed us from a tree trunk next to the feeding commotion.

Heavy rain dripped its way onto Gen's bed, a good reason to get the leak fixed in Cairns.
