Clifton Beach Doggos on the Wild Side

We signed up with Kirsten, a Brit expat, for a 6 week stint of petsitting. The house is very conveniently located, an easy walk to the beach and just round the corner from the shops. The pool is great, as is the outside deck.

Highlights were the hugely friendly doggos, Maverick and Jasmine. Jas is the sensible lady putting up with boisterous Mav, a cattledog ball of energy and cuddles, a training work in progress!

Mav is the younger of the two and is regularly bossed by Jas who is fiercely possessive whenever there is food around.

Walkies always on leash, are fine with Jas who is sedate and mostly mild although she is very strong and can take a dislike to a passing dog. Mav is like taking a firework for a stroll - pulling like a demon from the start, he goes bananas when he sees another dog and yelps, screams, does somersaults until we drag him away. As soon as we return home, exhausted, both the dogs take off around the pool enclosure doing zoomies. So much for tiring them out! Jas loves a swim in the pool to cool off whilst Mav excitedly pushes his two front paws over the edge.

The neighbour, an elderly drummer, and his wife, a writer of colonial history, put on a street party. All the street arrives, lots of lovely ladies and gents bearing gifts of food. The neighbour's band played 80's songs outside the garage, the dogs smooched for food, and we all chatted happily.

On Christmas Day we took the dogs for a walk on Clifton beach, the whole suburb is a tropical delight.

We came back for our Christmas meal, a seafood platter of prawns, salmon, bugs and mussels from the local seafood shop with Aussie bubbly.

Cane toads visit the backyard and hop into the dogs' pool where I yank them out with a net or catch them by the back leg and lob them over the fence.

To celebrate good news for our successful visa renewal, we head to Palm Cove for celebration with frozen margaritas and nachos.

On New Year's Day, the sun shines a glorious light on the Esplanade in town where we pay for a ride on the Wheel that lofts us up above the buildings with a fine view of the sea.
