The road to the Tip of Cape York snakes from Bamaga through thick forest along muddy tracks with occasional lunatics speeding round single track blind corners.
The Croc Tent is a monument to all those souvenirs you knew you never needed, but you succumb to temptation anyway.
To the East, the road heads to Fly Point, beautiful rocky outcrops and rocky pools; and the now overgrown Somerset which was once the seat of government before it was transitioned to Thursday Island, a better harbour.
Along Somerset beach we wander to see the graves of the Jardine family, an amazing pioneering family, as well as two pearl divers' graves; and the well built around a freshwater spring. John Jardine established a homestead in 1864 waiting for his sons, Frank and Alec Jardine, to complete an epic 1200 mile trek from Rockhampton to Somerset in 10 months driving 250 head of cattle and 42 horses across at least six massive rivers. Only 12 horses and 50 cattle survived.
Then we head West and North to the Tip which we reach on foot, rounding it via the beach track on a perfect day of blue sky and sunshine. Standing on the Northernmost point of Australia, we are outdistanced by a large and beautiful turtle popping his head up in the sea to see what all the fun is about.
Back in Seisia, we stay at Loyalty Beach Campground with an excellent seashore view and indefatigable dirt biker tour groups raising hell until 3am whilst planning a memorable wedding for two of their members - all plan to ride naked back in Melbourne - Chilli beach rather than Chilly bumbum is all I can say!
Spectacular sunsets and sunrises can be seen from our tent.
Lying in bed in the tent the night after the 3am party, we have more feral pleasures listening to clipclop, snort, snort of semi-domesticated Brumbies and their apprentice foals expertly knocking over bins, and opening water taps.
Punsand Campground is more remote, but less scenic, a place to kick back and recover from our adventures. There is even a helicopter clattering off to overfly the Tip.
Highlight of the stay is a delicious woodfired pizza plus white wine in an ice bucket at the exotic bar.
