Perry Sandhills

Just outside Wentworth, near Mildura, is a region of sandhills, rising up from nowhere like a slice of the desert. No longer used as a WWII bombing range, it is a splendid sight with the yellow foreground sandhills backed by windswept reddish brown sandscapes.

Rippling dunes are dotted with yellow centred white puffy flowers on the edges.

Amazingly, river red gums rise imperially from the sand, their trunks submerged four or more metres in the sand so that in the case of the tallest gum, known as the God Tree, we walk around and enjoy the shade of the treetop canopy. Countless idiots have inscribed graffiti on the bark which responds by shedding the carved part and regrowing a fresh canvas for lovestruck teens.
