Panama - Night Life Takes Its Toll

Midnight, travelling from Tocumen airport to the city centre, the taxi puts on a burst of speed along a toll road. We arrive at the exit toll booth. All is quiet. The window of the booth is wide open. With her head cradled in her elbow, a pretty assistant is snoring contentedly. The taxi driver gently wishes her awake with a "buenas dias" and repeats it before she raises her head to limply hang out her hand for the toll. As we leave, I say "buenas noches". "No, no", says the driver, "it's morning, now, buenas dias."
