Ireland - Three Strikes for the Luck of the Irish

Courtesy of Dell, I was invited to visit the computer manufacturing plant in Limerick. The visit was a good excuse to take some extra time off for a long weekend.

We got to the airport at midnight, hired a car, and set off in search of our local hotel in the thickest mist imaginable. After several hours spent getting lost, even receiving the wrong directions from a police car, we stumbled into the hotel bar where a music gig was in full swing. Too exhausted to party, we collapsed on the bed in our room hoping to sleep, but were almost immediately awakened by the fire alarm.

As we stumbled downstairs, Gen saved the cameras first, then at the foot of the stairs we found a prostrate girl unconscious either due to drink or falling or both, and summoned help before learning the alarm was both false and none of the staff knew how to turn it off. Strike One for Ireland.

Next day, the sun was shining as we toured the local villages. Gen took her new camera down to the river at Sneem and looked for interesting angles in the rapids. Suddenly, there was a scream and she was in the water, sliding down the rocks whilst she held the camera high above her head. Strike Two for Ireland, but luckily I could save the camera first and then let Gen waddle out of the river like a wet dog.

To polish off the weekend, we found a luxury hotel for an excellent dinner and a suite with a view to remember of  floodlit torrents. Next morning, a pretty girl took my credit card at the front desk and said she'd pop into the office to use the machine. The process seemed to take longer than I anticipated, but the assistant had a winning smile, and we were soon on our way to the airport to fly back to the UK.

Back at home, before bed I thought I'd do a bit of updating to my bank details. Looking closer at my online credit card statement I noticed a whole string of dodgy transactions for phone calls to Africa and Virgin CDs. A quick phone call to the credit card company confirmed my card had been cloned whilst in Limerick. Strike Three for Ireland
